Following the success of the internationally bestselling TV series ‘Game of Thrones,’ based on George R. R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire series, Nexon is reportedly developing a new video game set in the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe.

What is the timeline for the new Game of Thrones game?

According to reports from Redanian Intelligence, Nexon is developing a new MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) set in the world of Game of Thrones.

The new game will be set in the North, featuring locations like Winterfell and The Wall. Timeline-wise, it aligns with Game of Thrones Season 4/Season 5, where Roose Bolton is already the Warden of the North, and Jon Snow and Sam Tarly are stationed at The Wall. While other kingdoms are possible, the focus so far has been on the North. The new game will be set in the North, featuring locations like Winterfell and The Wall. Back in 2014, there were reports that an MMORPG game titled ‘Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms‘ was being developed. Unfortunately, it was canceled. The new game marks the first official ‘Game of Thrones’ entry.

What type of ‘Game of Thrones’ game is Nexon developing?

The untitled game being developed by Nexon will allow players to interact with various characters throughout the game. However, it’s currently unclear whether the original cast will return to voice their characters. Instead, the game will feature a new voice cast attempting to emulate the performances of the HBO actors. The game features a story campaign that is online based. Players can select between male and female protagonists, with the unchosen character still playing a role in the game, similar to Mass Effect: Andromeda. While the overall concept resembles The Elder Scrolls Online in some aspects, specific details about the game are still limited.

The game is currently in development, with an expected release date set for either 2025 or 2026.
