Report: Xolo Maridueña and Tanner Gillman Cast in Marvel’s ‘Nova’ Series, Sabir Pirzada to Write

Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle, Cobra Kai) and Tanner Gillman (Mr. Right, Crom) have been cast in Marvel Television‘s Nova series, as confirmed by Production List.

The show is currently in the development/pre-production stage, with filming scheduled to begin on January 31, 2025.

Sabir Pirzada, who previously worked on Marvel’s Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel, is set to write the series. Glenn Close will reprise her MCU role as Nova Prime Irani Rael, while John C. Reilly portrays Rhomann Dey.

What is the Plot of the Nova Series?

Here’s the synopsis for the Nova series: In the wake of Annihilation, Nova, the Human Rocket, stands on the front lines of cosmic adventure as the last of the Nova Corps and our only hope against threats from the furthest reaches of the Marvel Universe!

Recently, insider Daniel Richtman reported that the Nova series will explore the Nova Corps in space. It will not only focus on Richard Rider’s Nova.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Brad Winderbaum—head of Marvel Studios Television and Animation—said Marvel Studios is developing more shows than they produce, entering new territory. A Nova series is exciting to them—with great ideas currently being developed—and he sees a lot of potential in the Nova project. The team is being cautious about scheduling, ensuring every project meets high-quality standards.

Winderbaum said, “It’s new territory for us, developing more shows than we produce. Nova certainly is exciting to us, we’ve got some great ideas simmering. I think there’s a lot of potential there. I love Nova, also, from the comics, especially the Richard Rider era… we’ll see what happens. Like you said, there’s only so many release slots in the schedule, but we want to make sure everything we make is as good as it could possibly be. But I will say that is a particular project we are excited about and excited about developing.”

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed Richard Rider will be the lead in the Nova series. Feige said, “It’s happening, it’s coming together. Richard Rider, yep.” He added, “It’s three or four years out.”

Nova will premiere on Disney+, with the date to be announced.
