It’s another Barbenheimer moment for Hollywood this year. Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, and fans have started calling it “Dunesday.”
Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet revealed that they have branded the same-day release of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three as “Dunesday.”
During a recent Q&A for Chalamet’s Marty Supreme in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Downey revealed that Doomsday and Dune: Part Three are releasing on the same day.
Downey said, “We both have films opening on December 18th, and we decided to coin a name for it… We’re thinking ‘Dunesday.’”
Barbie and Oppenheimer proved this can work. Together, they made almost $2.5 billion worldwide in 2023. Avengers: Endgame later became the second highest-grossing movie ever with $2.8 billion. Dune: Part Two earned $715 million worldwide.
Following 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU not as Tony Stark/Iron Man but as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom, alongside Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and more. The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.
