Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Tom Cruise (Top Gun: Maverick) are rumored to star in a remake of Clint Eastwood‘s ‘The Gauntlet‘ at Warner Bros. Pictures, directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
Johansson and Cruise are currently among the top A-list actors in Hollywood. McQuarrie has already collaborated with Cruise on multiple films, including the ‘Mission: Impossible‘ series, ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Jack Reacher‘.
McQuarrie will begin preparations for the ‘The Gauntlet’ remake soon after completing ‘Mission: Impossible 8‘. Filming is expected to commence in early 2025.
Tom Cruise Teases Collaboration with Scarlett Johansson on Upcoming Project
During the Rome premiere of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning, Part One, Cruise confirmed that he and Johansson are “absolutely” on board to star together in a project.
Cruise praised Johansson, stating, “She’s amazing,” and added, “There’s a great actress and a movie star.” When asked if he thinks they can star in something together, he immediately answered, “Yes. It’s gonna happen.”
Cruise continued, “Look, I’ve watched her career her whole life. She’s enormously talented, very charismatic. It’d be fun. She could do everything. She could do comedy, drama, action, suspense. She’s someone that really draws you in on the screen, on camera. So absolutely, it’s gonna happen.”
‘The Gauntlet,’ released in 1977 and directed by Eastwood, stars him as Ben Shockley, a down-and-out cop who is tasked with escorting a prostitute, Gus Mally (Sondra Locke), from Las Vegas to Phoenix so she can testify in a mob trial. However, Shockley soon discovers that powerful forces are determined to stop them from reaching their destination, leading to intense action sequences and suspenseful moments.
Following the rumor, Warner Bros. has not made anything official yet. We’ll have to wait for updates regarding additional cast members and the release date.
