What is the Plot of Saltburn?
Academy Award winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) brings us a wicked tale of privilege and desire. Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family’s sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten.
According to Vanity Fair, Fennell wanted her film to tackle strong themes that would leave an impression on the audience. Fennell said, “We are all in this very strange world now, I think, of wanting. We’re just in a perpetual state of desire, need, and want,” she said. “Our relationship with the things that we want when we look on Instagram, or we look at clothes, or we look at food, whatever it is: ‘I both want it and I’m disgusted with myself for wanting it.’” Fennell added, “The thing is, we’re all disgusting perverts, aren’t we?”
