Selena Gomez and David Henrie are reuniting to executive produce a ‘Wizards of Waverly Place‘ sequel series for Disney Channel. Gomez will guest star as her character Alex Russo in the pilot, while Henrie will reprise his role as Justin Russo as a series regular, as confirmed by Deadline.
On Instagram, Gomez celebrated the news with a Story post, sharing a picture of Alex and Justin with the caption, “We’re back.” Henrie also posted a photo of the pilot script and wrote, “The Russo’s are excited to become a part of your family once again, but we’ve grown 2024, the year magic comes back!“
‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is a Disney Channel fantasy series that aired from 2007 to 2012. The show revolves around the Russo siblings – Alex, Justin, and Max – who are wizards in training. Only one of them can become a full wizard, adding a competitive twist. The series follows their magical misadventures and everyday challenges in high school.

The sequel picks up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo (Henrie) has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons. But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door. and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.
Janice LeAnn Brown, from Disney’s “Just Roll with It,” is the series lead playing Billie, the powerful young wizard mentored by Justin. Alkaio Thiele, known for “Call Me Kat,” portrays Roman Russo, Justin’s oldest son, while Mimi Gianopulos, recognized for “American Princess,” takes on the role of Giada, Justin Russo’s wife.
Gary Marsh, the Disney Channels creative head behind “Wizards of Waverly Place,” is an executive producer. He also discovered Gomez during an open casting call in Dallas and brought her to the network.
We’re not sure when it’s coming out, but Disney wants this series. It’s part of their plan to add more sitcoms to Disney Channel.
