Exclusive: Seth Rogen will officially pen and produce an R-rated Venom animated project for Sony Pictures Animation.
According to GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT, Rogen has begun scripting an R-rated Venom animated project, still in its early stages of development. This project will run parallel to Sony’s live-action Venom movies, much like ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse‘ does with the Tom Holland Spider-Man films.
Rogen previously worked on the script for ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ which carries a PG-13 rating. However, his involvement in the script for the new Venom movie marks his first venture into R-rated scriptwriting.
We reported recently that Sony is developing an R-rated ‘Spider-Man’ animated film, building on the success of the two Spider-Verse animated movies. One film will center on Spider-Verse’s Hobie Brown, also known as Spider-Punk, while the other is a Venom project.
The Spider-Verse is expanding with the confirmed development of a female-focused spin-off film, Spider-Woman. Meanwhile, the release dates for the trilogy’s concluding chapter, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, are experiencing delays due to ongoing production and VFX work.
The final installment in the Venom franchise, titled ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ starring Tom Hardy, is currently in development. Directed by Kelly Marcel, the film is slated for release on October 25, 2024, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
