In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fowler confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will introduce a new character at the end to set up a potential fourth film. He also shared that filmmakers enjoy the fan debates about which character will be teased next.
Filmmakers have their own favorites and make strong cases for who should appear. The movie will continue the tradition of teasing new characters, keeping fans excited and eager to see what’s next.
Fowler said, “It’s fun to see the fan debates online about who’s coming up next, who’s going to be teased at the end of the film.” Fowler added, “We have a lot of the same conversations. We’ve all got our favorites on the filmmaking side, and we’re all making great cases for ‘it should be this one or that one.’ It is fun to keep that anticipation. This movie is no different in terms of teasing new characters.”
Recently, we revealed the runtime for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is 1 hour and 45 minutes (105 minutes). Directed by Fowler, with a screenplay by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington, based on a story by Casey and Miller. The film stars Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Miles “Tails” Prower, Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog, and Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna. The live-action cast includes James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Krysten Ritter as Captain Rockwell, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, Tom Butler as Commander Walters, Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, Alyla Browne as Maria, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone. Filming began in November 2023 and concluded in March 2024.
