Sterling K. Brown is eager to play John Stewart/Green Lantern in the DCU and hopes for a call from James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, the co-chairs of DC Studios.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Brown says he would be excited to play John Stewart in the DCU. “Maybe I have to give somebody a call.”

Brown said, “I watched this cartoon every time I came home from school. Seeing him as a black hero in my childhood was a huge inspiration as if there was a space for me in this world. If that happened, it would be exciting.” Brown added, “It would be one of those unforgettable career moments… I might need to make some calls.”

Gunn already clarified that the DCU canon will start with the animated series ‘Creature Commandos‘ and then ‘Superman: Legacy,’ which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

As for the DCU, Gunn said, “Nothing is canon until Creature Commandos next year—a sort of aperitif to the DCU—and then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that. It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think it’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn added, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories, and some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows, and animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until CC and Legacy.”

Upcoming DCU Slate:

Confirmed:

  • Creature Commandos
  • Peacemaker S2
  • Waller
  • Booster Gold
  • Lanterns
  • Arkham Asylum
  • Paradise Lost
  • Superman: Legacy
  • Batman: The Brave & The Bold
  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
  • The Authority
  • Swamp Thing
