This week, Super Mario Bros. Wonder took the top spot in the UK boxed charts, pushing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to second place.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder had a 55% sales drop, while Spider-Man 2 saw a 69% decrease week-on-week. Both games are among the top boxed game launches of 2023, with Spider-Man 2 in fourth place and Mario Wonder in fifth.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 entered at No.4, EA Sports FC 24 stayed at No.3, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage remained in the Top 5 despite a 25% sales drop. Four new entries, including EA Sports UFC 5, joined the charts.
Sonic Superstars fell to No.15 with a 72% sales decrease, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom dropped to No.17 despite a 9% sales increase. Five titles re-entered the charts due to price promotions, including Dead Island 2, Sonic Origins Plus, Red Dead Redemption 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, and Gotham Knights.
According to Nintendo’s official description:
“Check out Mario’s latest adventure, and see how Wonder Flowers shakes up the classic platforming gameplay with all kinds of wild Wonder effects. Take your pick from the largest cast of characters ever seen in a side-scrolling Mario game, and hop into the Flower Kingdom with up to 4 players in local co-op. You’ll even get to try some new power-ups, like the Elephant Fruit!”
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, badges are a significant addition, granting Mario and friends new abilities. These can be unlocked and equipped from the world map, with some, like the Floating High Jump Badge, changing character movements. The Dolphin Kick Badge is handy for swimming, making it easier to cover more distance quickly in the water.
According to Insomniac Games, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will explore different locations within New York City besides outer Manhattan, such as Queens. Both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are playable as Spider-Man, with a different set of abilities: Peter Parker now has the Venom suit that gives him abilities that greatly improve his combat prowess and ability to defeat multiple goons at once, while Miles Morales has his unique abilities such as Camouflage invisibility and his venom blast. Also, the bar-based Focus system returns from the first game, meaning Miles’ Bio Electric from his spin-off game is integrated into the L1-based Power Gauge system alongside Peter’s own Power Gauge system.
