Netflix has released the official trailer for The Diplomat Season 2, which is set to premiere on October 31, 2024. Watch the trailer above.
Season 2 begins after the explosive bombing in central London—at the end of the Season 1 finale. U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) investigates the bombing and discovers it originated from within the British government—not from a rival nation. Kate’s only ally is her estranged husband—Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell)—who is alive and involved in the unfolding events. She also faces a strained marriage—a complex relationship with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi)—and a tense visit from U.S. Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney).
Keri Russell returns as Kate Wyler, the U.S. ambassador to the UK, with Rufus Sewell reprising his role as her husband, Hal. The cast also includes David Gyasi as UK Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, Ato Essandoh, Ali Ahn, Nana Mensah, Miguel Sandoval, Michael McKean, Celia Imrie, and T’Nia Miller. Joining for Season 2 is Allison Janney (I, Tonya), playing Vice President Grace Penn. Janney, a seven-time Emmy winner, will guest star throughout the season, reuniting with The West Wing alum Debora Cahn.
In a statement, Cahn said, “We filmed at St. Paul’s for four days.” Cahn added, “The robes our clergy wore were lent to us by the cathedral. It was the fourth time they’d ever been worn, including Winston Churchill’s funeral, and Margaret Thatcher’s. It was breathtaking.”
Season 1 premiered on April 20 and debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10 TV (English) list. It earned 57.48 million hours viewed in its first weekend and appeared in the Top 10 in 87 countries.
The Diplomat was created by Debora Cahn, known for her work on Homeland. The series is executive produced by Janice Williams, Keri Russell, Peter Noah, and Alex Graves.
