Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for The Roses, starring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film is based on the 1981 novel The War of the Roses by Warren Adler. Watch the trailer below.
Here’s the plot details for The Roses:
In The Roses, life seems easy for picture-perfect couple Ivy (Colman) and Theo (Cumberbatch): successful careers, a loving marriage, great kids. But beneath the façade of their seemingly ideal life, a storm is brewing — as Theo’s career nosedives and Ivy’s ambitions take off, a tinderbox of fierce competition and hidden resentment ignites. The Roses is a reimagining of the 1989 classic film The War of the Roses, based on the novel by Warren Adler.
Directed by Jay Roach from a screenplay by Tony McNamara, the film also stars Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Hala Finley, and Akie Kotabe.
The film is produced by Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, Ed Sinclair, and Tom Carver, with production companies SunnyMarch and South of the River Pictures behind the project.
The Roses is scheduled for release on August 29, 2025, by Searchlight Pictures.
