The storm chasers are coming back once again.
A sequel to Twisters, starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, is reportedly in development at Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, as reported by industry insider Daniel Richtman.
Production is expected to begin in early 2026.
The 2024 film follows clashing groups of storm chasers (Powell and Edgar-Jones) who investigate a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma. It is a standalone sequel to Twister (1996), directed by Lee Isaac Chung from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith, based on a story by Joseph Kosinski.

The film stars Edgar-Jones as Kate Carter, Powell as Tyler Owens, Anthony Ramos as Javi, Brandon Perea as Boone, Maura Tierney as Cathy, Harry Hadden-Paton as Ben, Sasha Lane as Lily, Daryl McCormack as Jeb, Kiernan Shipka as Addy, Nik Dodani as Praveen, and David Corenswet as Scott.
Here’s the synopsis for Twisters:
Kate Cooper, Tyler Owens and their competing teams find themselves right in the path of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma and will be in the fight of their lives.
Screenrant reported that Twisters 2 might use a flashback scene to show an important event from Tyler’s past related to tornadoes. Tyler, who was once a rodeo cowboy, became interested in storms after experiencing a tornado with his aunt. He later became a meteorologist before becoming a storm-chasing YouTuber.
Twisters was a big box office hit, earning $372 million worldwide on a budget of $155 million.
Twisters is now available to watch on Prime Video.
