Tyriq Withers (Atlanta) to star alongside Marlon Wayans (The Curse of Bridge Hollow) in ‘Goat,’ a sports horror movie helmed by director Justin Tipping (Black Monday) and produced by Jordan Peele (Nope).
The film focuses on a promising young athlete (Withers) who receives an invitation to train with a retiring star of the team (Wayans).
The project is based on a Black List script by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. It’s produced by Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, and Jamal Watson. Executive producers are David Kern and Kate Oh. Sara Scott and Tony Ducret will oversee the project for Universal.
Execs eyed Wayans for the senior role. After meeting with various newcomers, Monkeypaw and Universal picked Withers as their top choice for the younger lead.
Withers, recognized for FX’s ‘Atlanta,’ is currently shooting ‘Family Secrets’ with Eric Dane and Maia Mitchell. He’ll also feature in the upcoming Apple series ‘Houston.’ His credits include Netflix’s ‘Senior Year,’ Hulu’s ‘Tell Me Lies,’ The CW’s ‘Legacies,’ and Paramount+’s ‘The Game.’
‘Goat’ filming is set to begin in the fall, with a scheduled release date in 2025.
