Kelly Marcel Hints at ‘Venom 3’ in Interview: Calls It ‘Amazing’ and Shares Joy of Collaborating with Tom Hardy
In an interview with Collider, Marcel described ‘Venom 3’ as “going to be amazing.”
Marcel said, “I’ll get killed if I say anything about Venom 3, but I will say, yes, Tom and I have had a long collaborative history with each other. We love each other. Love working with each other. Both of us are passionate about the Venom franchise. It’s just really a joy for us to be able to get to do this third one together. I can’t really tease you anything about it other than it’s going to be amazing. Tom and I genuinely just have a blast with each other whenever we get to work together. There’s a lot of laughing that happens.”
Kelly Marcel Discusses Collaborative Process with Tom Hardy in Creating ‘Venom’ Stories
Marcel was the writer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and it was based on an idea by Tom Hardy. They spend a lot of time working together to create the story, and Marcel praised Hardy’s dedication to the characters.
She said, “Yeah, on Venom 2, he got a “story by” [credit]. We sit for months and do this on Zoom, or in person, or hole up in hotel rooms, board rooms, you know, for weeks and really bash out the story, and he is Eddie and he is Venom. It’s a weird one. There’s just no way of doing these movies without the amount of input that Tom gives. He’s really, really dedicated to what happens to these characters.”
Directed by Kelly Marcel from a screenplay she co-wrote with Tom Hardy. The film is a sequel to Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The film stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom and Juno Temple is the only confirmed cast member as of now.
Filming began in June 2023 in Los Mateos, Cartagena, Spain, but was briefly paused due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. It will resume once the strike ends.
The plot of the film revolves around Venom and Toxin, who find themselves being pursued by the government. In order to combat the Xenophage, a genetically engineered symbiote killer that has gone rogue, Venom and Toxin are forced to unite and fight together.
Produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Hutch Parker, Kelly Marcel, and Tom Hardy. The film is part of Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man cinematic universe, which is separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which focuses on characters such as Spider-Man.
Venom 3 is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 12, 2024, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
