Venom: The Last Dance is set to introduce the symbiote god, Knull. According to director Kelly Marcel, this film will serve as the starting point for Knull’s story, even though it marks Tom Hardy‘s “last time” playing Eddie/Venom.
Marcel explained the decision, saying, “There are many more symbiote stories — the universe is vast and rich, and one movie could never do justice to Knull. Beyond this trilogy, there are more stories to explore – God is coming.”
In a recent interview with IGN, Marcel describes Knull as “one of Marvel’s greatest villains” and teases his future involvement, stating, “We needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character and his relationship with Eddie before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull.”
Marcel said, “This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story.” Marcel added. “Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership — but it’s their relationship that remains the heart of this story.”
Following the final trailer, Knull co-creator Donny Cates revealed that he read the script for Venom: The Last Dance and praised how Sony introduces Knull into their SSU. He stated, “It is so much bigger and so much more ambitious than you can imagine. And, um… KNULL. Holy shit.”
According to the film’s official plot synopsis, “In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.”
Marcel, who directed the first film will return to direct from a screenplay she co-wrote with Hardy. It is a sequel to Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The film stars Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach, and Stephen Graham.
Venom: The Last Dance hit theaters on October 25, 2024, by Sony Pictures Releasing.
