“You” Season 4: Part 1 is now available on Netflix. Jenna Ortega was planned to appear in Season 4, while she played Ellie Alves in Season 2. Due to scheduling difficulties with “Wednesday,” Ortega was unable to return for “You” Season 4.
Sera Gamble, the showrunner, revealed that the hit series was attempting to bring back Ortega’s Ellie Alves for Season 4. Ellie was one of Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) confidantes who survived his friendship, and Ellie is mentioned in Season 3 as someone Joe regularly communicates with and gives money to.
Speaking to IndieWire, Gamble said, “We wanted to bring Ellie back, and we heard, ‘Oh, Jenna is doing some show.’” Gamble added, “It’s been just such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again.”
“To me, his relationship with Nadia is really telling,” Gamble continues. “He has such a soft spot that is truly altruistic. He has really good boundaries with young people…except when he occasionally kills their abusive stepparents, but otherwise, he’s a great mentor.”
“You” Season 4 also stars Tati Gabrielle as Marienne Bellamy, Charlotte Ritchie as Kate, Tilly Keeper as Lady Phoebe, Amy-Leigh Hickman as Nadia, Ed Speleers as Rhys Montrose, and Lukas Gage as Adam Pratt.
Back in 2019, Speaking to Teen Vogue, Ortega mentioned her interest towards reprise her role of Ellie in the “You” series. She said, “It would be amazing to see Ellie come back and take control of her life.” Ortega added, “I just want her to be an even bigger badass. I don’t want her to come back and be extremely vulnerable and sad. We have to remember that even though people still find Joe somewhat charming, he’s evil, he does terrible things, and he gets away with them because of his gender and race and his position in society. [Ellie] has so much potential and so much talent that she shouldn’t waste because of him.”
