Speaking to Variety, Mendes told “I got tired fighting for the good roles,” she said. “There just was a point where I thought, ‘I’m going to create my own opportunities and become a producer on things and create my own material,’ but it just didn’t feel worth it to me.”
During an appearance on the Today show, Mendes revealed that she and Ryan Gosling had a ‘non-verbal agreement’ regarding her being a stay-at-home mom.
Mendes said, “It was almost just like a non-verbal agreement that it was like, ‘OK, he’s going to work, and I’m going to work. I’m just going to work here.'” she added. “He went, and he did his job. He just happens to be really good at his job. And he did it, and he came home.”

In an interview with Variety, Mendes revealed she grew up in an apartment with five of them in a small one-bedroom and one-bathroom, Mendes said. “She would put on Cuban music and I would smell the Pine Sol. It wouldn’t stay clean for long, but those couple of days would make me feel better and we were all in a better mood. It started then and I brought it into my house today. I have two little girls, and that kitchen sink is always full. I don’t know if I’ve made myself love it, but to me it is meditative to wash the dishes and to feel the suds.
