Zack Snyder shared the first poster for his film Rebel Moon on Twitter, following Netflix’s featurette at the Tudum global fan event in Brazil. The film, set to premiere on December 22, 2023, carries the tagline, “War comes to every world.” See the poster below.
According to Netflix’s logline, “When tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with Kora in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, she assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.”
The film stars Sofia Boutella as Kora, Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, Ed Skrein as Balisarius, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher as Blood Axe, Staz Nair, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins as Jimmy (voice role), Jena Malone, Stuart Martin, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Alfonso Herrera, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, and Ray Porter. During the Tudum event, Snyder said on stage, “I’ve been working on this story for quite a while.” Snyder added, “It’s about a group of farmers on the edge of the galaxy that gets visited by the armies of the Mother World, which are the bad guys. The farmers have to decide to fight or submit.”
He adds, “I don’t want to give it all away, but if they had decided to fight, let’s say that was an option, they would have to travel around the galaxy to find warriors to fight with them. And so, it had us traveling quite a bit.”
In the preview, Snyder says, “This movie, for me, existed elementally for 20 years. It’s a story of a few against many, impossible odds, and good versus evil. I’m getting a chance to tell a story that I’ve been thinking about for quite a while.”
The estimated budget for the film is $166 million. Also, there are plans to release a more explicit and harder-edged cut of the film at a later date, which will be intended for adults. Snyder initially wrote the script as a single movie, but due to its length, Netflix suggested splitting it into two parts. Also Rebel Moon RPG Game is in the works.
