Netflix canceled “1899” after one season. The series debuts at #2 in Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 English series with approximately 80 million hours in just 4 days. According to show creator Baran bo Odar, “1899” will not be renewed for a second season on Netflix.
On Instagram, Baran bo Odar posted “With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned. That’s life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts that you were a part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Never forget. Bo & Jantje”
“1899” is a German period mystery-science series created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar for Netflix. The synopsis reads: “When mysterious events change the course of an immigrant Ship headed for New York in 1899, a mind-bending riddle unfolds for its bewildered passengers.”
The series stars Emily Beecham as Maura Henriette Franklin/Singleton, Aneurin Barnard as Daniel Solace, Andreas Pietschmann as Eyk Larsen, Miguel Bernardeau as Ángel, José Pimentão as Ramiro, Isabella Wei as Ling Yi, Gabby Wong as Yuk Je, Mathilde Ollivier as Clémence, Jonas Bloquet as Lucien, Rosalie Craig as Virginia Wilson, and Maciej Musiał as Olek.

“1899” Season 1 Episode Details:
- The Ship: Maura helps a pregnant woman. The captain makes a brave decision after receiving a message from a lost ship — and discovers something mind-bending.
- The Boy: The captain experiences unexplainable flashbacks. A strange man follows Maura to her cabin where a boy is hiding. A bug leads to a tragedy on deck.
- The Fog: A girl and other passengers suffer a terrible fate. Olek frees Ling Yi from a box. The captain makes a discovery that challenges his trust in Maura.
- The Fight: Several crew members and passengers search the ship for the boy after locking up the captain, Olek, Jérôme, and Ramiro. Krester’s secret is revealed.
- The Calling: Maura has terrible flashbacks and makes a shocking move. A sound leads some passengers to jump overboard. Maura makes a discovery about her father.
- The Pyramid: Tove has scary flashbacks and wants to kill the boy. Daniel follows Maura and the captain into a strange place. Maura’s father appears with a message.
- The Storm: Daniel asks Maura for something she doesn’t understand. Olek and Ling Yi steer the ship before a tragedy occurs. Elliot’s identity comes to light.
- The Key: Maura tells the passengers an unbelievable truth. Then, their memories shift and Daniel changes a code. Maura faces an unexpected reality.
