Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Anthony Carrigan (Barry), and Richard E. Grant (Saltburn) join Paul Rudd (Ant-Man franchise) and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) in A24’s ‘Death of a Unicorn,’ which has just completed filming.
The film is written and directed by Alex Scharfman. In the film, Rudd and Ortega star as father and daughter who accidentally killed a unicorn. His boss’s family decides to exploit the dead creature, which has magical curative powers. Filmed during the summer under a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.
The film also stars Téa Leoni (Flirting with Disaster), Sunita Mani (GLOW), Jessica Hynes (Shaun of the Dead), and Stephen Park (Asteroid City).
The film is produced by a team that includes Alex Scharfman, Drew Houpt, Lucas Joaquin, Tyler Campellone, Lars Knudsen, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, and executive producers Ari Aster, Michael Williams, Jacob Epstein, David Darby, Nate Kamiya, Rudd, and Ortega.
A24 will distribute the film globally after co-financing with Ley Line Entertainment.
John Carpenter, known for ‘Halloween,’ is composing the music for the film with his son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. The Director of Photography is Larry Fong (‘Kong: Skull Island’), with Amy Williams as Production Designer (‘Master of None’), Avy Kaufman as Casting Director (‘Tár’), and Andrea Flesch as Costume Designer (‘Midsommar’).
Scharfman, who co-founded Secret Engine, is also working on film and TV projects with several major studios, including Point Grey, Sugar23, Blumhouse, Lord Miller, Amblin, Amazon, and Sony TV. Before ‘Death of a Unicorn,’ he produced notable indie films like ‘Blow the Man Down’ and ‘Resurrection.’
The release date for ‘Death of a Unicorn’ is to be announced.
