Dakota Johnson, who stars as Cassandra Webb in Sony’s ‘Madame Web,’ shares her thoughts on working with blue screens and CGI, saying, “It was absolutely crazy to me. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an OK job!’”

In the film, Johnson plays Cassandra, a New York paramedic who gains special powers to see the future after a freak accident.

During her Entertainment Weekly interview, Johnson admitted to frequently getting mixed up between real scenes and those in Cassie’s head while filming. To stay focused, she would regularly check with the director, S. J. Clarkson, for a quick reminder.

Johnson said, “I trusted her so much. Johnson added, “I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion. That, to me, was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an okay job!’ But I trusted her. She works so hard, and she has not taken her eyes off this movie since we started.”

Johnson found she likes explosions and car crashes during filming. One of her best days on set was when a taxi crashed into a diner. She wanted to drive it but understood they didn’t want to risk the lead actor unless it’s Tom Cruise.

Johnson said, “I didn’t get to actually drive it into the diner, which is really a bummer.” Johnson added, “I really wanted to, but I guess they don’t want to put their lead actor in actual danger, unless you’re Tom Cruise.”

Directed by Clarkson from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama. The film is the sixth installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). The film stars Johnson as Madame Web, Sydney Sweeney as Julia Cornwall, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim as Ezekiel Sims, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott, and Zosia Mamet. Following the release of the first teaser trailer, Sony is now preparing to reveal the new trailer in the coming weeks. See the set images.

According to the film’s plot: Meanwhile, in another universe… In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures—if they can all survive a deadly present.

‘Madame Web’ hits theaters on February 16, 2024.
