Finally, James Gunn has found the perfect Supergirl for his DC Universe.

The ‘House of the Dragon‘ star Milly Alcock has officially been cast as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl in the DCU. Alcock and Meg Donnelly were the top contenders, and with Donnelly now out, Alcock secures the role.

On Instagram, Gunn confirmed the casting and wrote, “This is accurate. Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon, but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.”

Alcock is set to headline her solo film, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ with filming scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024. Before her standalone movie, Supergirl will make her DC Universe debut in Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy.’

Gunn announced a Supergirl film, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ as part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the DC Universe. Nogueira will write the script. Gunn, commenting on the announcement, said, ‘In our series, we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

‘Superman: Legacy’ stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Gunn confirmed that he respects old Superman movies and that the script he made was definitely a sincere superhero movie. The film will be the DC Universe’s first film and the third installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, created by Gunn and Peter Safran.

The release date for ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ is yet to be announced (TBA).

Alcock is represented by CAA, Shanahan Management, Entertainment 360, and Curtis Brown.

‘Superman: Legacy’ hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
