The new female lead has been added to the upcoming Netflix ‘Peaky Blinders‘ movie starring Cillian Murphy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rebecca Ferguson (‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’, ‘Dune: Part Two’) has joined the cast of ‘Peaky Blinders’. Her role has not yet been revealed. Murphy will reprise his role as Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby and also produce.
Tom Harper is directing the film from a screenplay by the show’s creator, Steven Knight. Filming is scheduled to begin in September 2024.
During the film’s announcement, Murphy said, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy told Netflix. “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
Harper, who directed episodes of the show’s first season in 2013, will direct the new film from a script by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper said. “Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
The production team includes Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley as producers. Executive producers are Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The film will be made in partnership with BBC Film.
Ferguson recently reprised her role as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Two and will next be seen in the second season of the Apple sci-fi series Silo and in Amazon MGM Studios’ Mercy, alongside Chris Pratt, which will be released in the United States on August 15, 2025.
‘Peaky Blinders’ will be released on Netflix in 2025.
