‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Greenlit by Netflix: Cillian Murphy and Tom Harper at the Helm

Netflix has officially greenlit the ‘Peaky Blinders‘ movie! Tom Harper will direct, and Cillian Murphy will star as Tommy Shelby and also produce.

Filming for the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie is confirmed to start in September 2024. The script is written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight. The production team includes Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley as producers. Executive producers are Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The film will be made in partnership with BBC Film.

In a statement, Murphy said, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me…It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”

As of now, plot details are under wraps, but Knight has confirmed that the film’s story will unfold during World War II. Expect more cast announcements as production progresses. Knight said, “I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”

Harper said, “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”

‘Peaky Blinders’ is a British TV series by Knight that debuted in 2013. Set post-World War I in Birmingham, it follows the Shelby crime family, led by the sharp Tommy Shelby (Murphy). The nickname comes from razor blades sewn into their caps, symbolizing their ruthless nature. The final season premiered on February 27, 2022. The series explores themes of crime, politics, family, and power as the Shelby family rises through the ranks of the criminal underworld while dealing with external threats and internal conflicts.

The movie is slated for release in 2025.
