The first set images of Cillian Murphy on the set of Netflix‘s Peaky Blinders movie have leaked online. During filming in Birmingham, England, Murphy was spotted as Tommy Shelby. See the set images below.
In the images, Murphy is in costume, riding a horse through the streets of his neighborhood. The scene echoes earlier moments in the series, such as the opening of the first episode with a solitary horse. Tommy Shelby’s clothes are covered in mud, and his face is bloody, suggesting troubling circumstances for the character.
The film’s working title is reportedly The Immortal Man. Tom Harper is directing the film, based on a screenplay by the show’s creator, Steven Knight. Filming will continue in Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, and Leeds, England.
Below, you can see Stephen Graham spotted filming a night scene on a narrowboat outside the Tap and Spile pub on Gas Street Basin, further reinforcing his involvement in this “epic continuation of the multi-award-winning gangster saga.”
The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Jay Lycurgo.
In a recent interview, Knight said, “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II. The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper said. “Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
The production team includes Caryn Mandabach, Knight, Murphy, and Guy Heeley as producers. Executive producers are Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason. The film will be made in partnership with BBC Film.
The Peaky Blinders movie is set to be released on Netflix in 2025.
