Apple Original Films has officially announced that a sequel to the 2023 action comedy The Family Plan is in development. It is confirmed that Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role and will also serve as a producer.
On X, Apple Original Films announced, “The Morgans are back. The Family Plan is getting a sequel.”
The sequel will be directed by Simon Cellan Jones, with a screenplay by David Coggeshall. Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti, and Van Crosby are also set to return.
The Family Plan follows Dan Morgan—a seemingly ordinary suburban dad played by Mark Wahlberg—who leads a quiet life as a car salesman. Unknown to his wife (Michelle Monaghan) and children (Zoe Colletti and Van Crosby), Dan has a secret past as a covert government assassin. When dangerous figures from his previous life track him down, Dan is compelled to take his unsuspecting family on the run to Las Vegas.
What is the Plot of The Family Plan 2?
“The Family Plan 2 takes place at Christmas in Europe where Dan has planned the perfect vacation for the Morgans, but his past continues to haunt them in unexpected ways.”
Produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger for Skydance, alongside Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson through Municipal Pictures, with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer alongside Simon Cellan Jones.
In a statement, Wahlberg said, “I am beyond excited to step back into the shoes of Dan Morgan again alongside my brilliant co-stars, and with Simon and David returning. Making ‘The Family Plan,’ and seeing it become an instant success with global audiences in the way that it did, has been incredibly rewarding.” Wahlberg added, “We can’t wait to collaborate with our partners at Apple and Skydance again on this next chapter for the Morgan family as their European holiday inevitably goes awry.”
Cellan Jones said, “I’m thrilled to be back with The Morgans as they tear through Europe in search of the perfect action-packed family Christmas.”
The release date has not been revealed yet.
