A Queen of Hearts origin story film is in the works at Disney.
According to insider Daniel Richtman on his Patreon, Julia Hart (Hollywood’s Stargirl, I’m Your Woman) is reportedly writing and directing the Queen of Hearts origin film for Disney. The project will not be connected to the previous live-action Alice in Wonderland films.
The Queen of Hearts is a well-known Disney villain, famous for her bad temper and the line, “Off with their heads!” She first appeared in Lewis Carroll’s 1865 novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and is the cruel ruler of Wonderland.
In Disney’s 1951 animated film, she is portrayed as an angry, unpredictable figure who frequently clashes with Alice. The Queen has remained an iconic villain, appearing in both animated and live-action adaptations, including Tim Burton’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland films, portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter.
Hart is best known for writing and directing films such as Miss Stevens (2016), Fast Color (2018), Stargirl (2020), and I’m Your Woman (2020). In 2022, she directed the Stargirl sequel, Hollywood Stargirl. She frequently collaborates with her husband, producer Jordan Horowitz.
