Kathryn Hahn (Agatha All Along, WandaVision) is reportedly in talks with Disney to play the role of Mother Gothel in the live-action Tangled movie, according to Daniel Richtman in his new Patreon post.
During the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, while speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Hahn was asked if she was interested in playing Mother Gothel in the live-action Tangled film. The interviewer said, “People have been dream casting you as Mother Gothel.” Hahn replied, “I mean, I’m really good at karaoke.”
Tangled will be a modern retelling of the classic Rapunzel fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm—plot details are currently under wraps. The film is expected to follow a similar storyline to the animated version.
Recently, Deadline reported that the live-action Tangled movie will be directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) and the script is penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge).
Tangled is a Disney animated musical film released in 2010. It is based on the German fairy tale “Rapunzel,” made famous by the Brothers Grimm. Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, the movie stars Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, a lively princess with magical, golden hair. She escapes her tower for the first time to see the world and goes on an adventure with a charming thief (Zachary Levi). Along the way, she discovers her true identity and learns the dark truth about the woman (Donna Murphy) who kept her locked away. The film made over $590 million worldwide.
The film is produced by Kristin Burr for Burr! Productions, alongside Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada (The Baby-Sitters Club).
Tangled will begin production soon, with the release date expected to be announced around that time.
