Marvel’s X-Men reboot movie is planned not to be an origin story. After Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is planning to focus on a new era of mutants and the X-Men.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, who revealed the information in a Patreon post, the X-Men reboot film will not be an origin story and is set to release after Avengers: Secret Wars. Additionally, the studio is reportedly looking for actors aged 20-30 to be cast in the movie.
Right now, there are two casting rumors for the X-Men reboot. Harris Dickinson (Babygirl, Triangle of Sadness) is reportedly being considered for Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria, Cuckoo) for Raven Darkhölme/Mystique.
We reported that the Russo Brothers, directors of the upcoming Avengers movies, have signed a new deal with Marvel Studios to oversee additional projects in the next saga, including the X-Men reboot.
Recently, Marvel President Kevin Feige appeared virtually during the Disney APAC Content Showcase and spoke about the future of the X-Men, calling their return to Marvel Studios “a dream come true.”
Feige said, “I think you will see that continue in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize.” He added, “Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”
Back in 2023, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Feige was asked about what fans could expect from the X-Men in the MCU.
Feige replied, “It’s super exciting. But the X-Men are as solid, rich, and great a concept and characters as exist. There’s the return of the animated series [X-Men ’97’] next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really brought you back to the core of who the X-Men are and the soap opera that those characters represent. And then, in live action, people will see… perhaps, soon.”
The X-Men movie is set to begin production soon after Avengers: Secret Wars.
