After a long wait, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has finally given an update on Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film, which had previously been on hold.
During Star Wars Celebration 2025 (via ScreenRant), Kennedy revealed that Tony McNamara (Poor Things, The Favourite) is officially writing the script for Waititi’s Star Wars project.
Kennedy said, “Taika is on Taika time… I’ve just continually said to him, look, when you feel that you’re ready and you can really devote the time, we’re going to do it. We’ll be waiting… I’m just hoping we get there. That will be a great Star Wars movie.”

Kennedy also revealed a brand-new project titled Star Wars: Starfighter, which will be directed by Shawn Levy, star Ryan Gosling, and is scheduled for a May 2027 release.
