Lionsgate is developing John Wick 5, with Chad Stahelski set to return to direct, and Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the professional hitman and assassin John Wick.
In a recent interview with Empire, Stahelski revealed that John Wick 5 will begin “a new story” for the character, not continue the previous arc. The new film won’t focus on the High Table or previous conflicts.
Stahelski says John has already “dealt with his grief,” so Chapter 5 will shift away from his emotional focus. Stahelski promises the story will be “really different” from previous films.

Stahelski is confident fans will be blown away, saying the trailer will make people say, “Holy f—… I gotta see that.”
Stahelski said, “The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up.” Stahelski added, “So the only way to do a 5 is to have a new story that involves John Wick. It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy f—… I gotta see that.’” Of course we will – it’s a John Wick movie.”
During last year’s Q4 earnings call, Joe Drake, the chairman of Lionsgate’s motion picture group, also hinted that a fifth installment of the John Wick franchise was in development.
Drake said, “What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including five and including the television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon.” He added, “We’re building out the world, and when that five movies comes, it will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
Reeves will return as John Wick in the upcoming From the World of John Wick: Ballerina movie, starring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro. The film is a spin-off set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). Ballerina will hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
