The Star Wars movie centered on Daisy Ridley‘s Rey is reportedly “on hold,” while Shawn Levy’s Starfighter and James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi are moving forward first.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Ridley’s Rey-centered Star Wars movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold.
The project is not canceled, just temporarily on hold. Following the exit of Steven Knight, a new writer was never officially hired, which caused the production delay. Despite the hold, Ridley’s Rey is still expected to return, and she remains central to Star Wars’ future.

During Star Wars Celebration 2025, Lucasfilm confirmed that Dawn of the Jedi, New Jedi Order starring Ridley, Shawn Levy’s Starfighter film starring Ryan Gosling, Taika Waititi’s untitled project, and a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg are all currently in development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rey is considered “the most valuable cinematic asset” the Star Wars franchise currently has. She is expected to appear in a new trilogy being developed by Kinberg, though specific details about the project remain unclear.
Back in 2023, during an interview with Collider, Ridley addressed her return as Rey.
Ridley said, “I was shitting myself before I went on stage because no one knew I was going to be there.” She added, “No one knew I was going to Celebration, except for Kathy [Kennedy] and a couple of other people. I was so nervous. Oh my God. It was such a wonderful reception. I’m very excited. The story is really cool. I’m waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don’t have any other updates. It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited.”
Most recently, Mia Goth was confirmed to join Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter alongside Gosling. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
