On X, user @JackkDoylee shared a map of Gotham City. A detailed look at the map revealed Batman-related locations, including Wayne Manor, Batcave access points such as Kane Memorial Bridge and Old Steam Tunnel, Arkham Asylum, Monarch Theater (where Batman’s origin began), Gotham City Police Department Headquarters, ACE Chemical (linked to the Joker’s creation), Blackgate Penitentiary, Wayne Industries, Wayne Tower, Sionis Complex, Iceberg Lounge, Gotham Botanical Gardens, Gotham University, Tricorner Yards, Paris Island, Cathedral Square, and many other key locations tied to Bruce Wayne’s vigilante legacy.

DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that Clayface is fully part of the DCU continuity, not Matt Reeves’ Batman Crime Saga. Meanwhile, Peter Safran stated that only Reeves’ Batman Trilogy and the Penguin series belong to that specific storyline, keeping Clayface separate from it. Gunn also confirmed that Clayface will be “definitely R-rated.”

Gunn said, “Clayface is totally DCU. The only thing that’s in Matt’s world—his Crime Saga that he’s telling—is the Batman Trilogy and the Penguin series. That’s in that lane.”

Safran added, “It’s still under DC Studios, still under us. We have an incredible relationship with Matt, but those are the only projects in his continuity.”

Gunn continued, “It was important that Clayface be part of the DCU. It’s an origin story for a classic Batman villain that we want to include in our world. It felt very outside the grounded, non-super, non-metahuman characters in Matt’s world.”

Most recently, Tom Rhys Harries, who plays Matt Hagen/Clayface, was spotted on the set of Clayface.

James Watkins directs the film from a screenplay by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Based on the DC Comics villain of the same name, it will be the DCU’s third film and the sixth installment of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

The Clayface cast includes Harries as Matt Hagen/Clayface, Naomi Ackie as Caitlin Bates, Eddie Marsan as Matt Hagen’s manager, and Max Minghella as John, Caitlin Bates’ fiancé and the film’s secondary antagonist.

Here’s the plot details for Clayface:

Clayface follows an aspiring actor (Harries) whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, he turns to a fringe, Elizabeth Holmes–style scientist for help. At first, the experiment appears successful, but—well, it wouldn’t be a horror movie if the story ended there, would it?

Produced by Gunn, Safran, Reeves, and Lynn Harris, with Chantal Nong serving as executive producer.

Clayface is scheduled to hit theaters on September 11, 2026.
