Zendaya’s MJ will be completely moving out of Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker’s life in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Zendaya’s MJ will reportedly have a new boyfriend in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. During production, it was reported that Marvel Studios was looking for a Harris Dickinson–type actor for a role in the film.
Zendaya’s MJ will play an important role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but with less screen time than expected.

Recently, we reported that the events of Avengers: Secret Wars will likely break Doctor Strange’s memory spell. The universe reset could restore Peter Parker’s relationships, including those with MJ and Ned.
After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter becomes very alone and spends all his time as Spider-Man saving the city. Peter narrates a confession to MJ—only to himself—and believes she is better off without him. The same goes for Ned.
There will be a quick montage scene in the first act of the movie showing Peter taking down mid-level villains such as Boomerang, Tarantula, Ramrod, Chameleon, and Rhino.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. It stars Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds, and Tony Revolori as Eugene “Flash” Thompson.
Sadie Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Marvin Jones III has been confirmed to play Tombstone. Additionally, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will appear in the movie.

After the world has forgotten his name, Peter Parker (Holland) begins a new chapter in his life — balancing college classes, part-time work, and his responsibility as New York’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But when a mysterious force begins to unravel the city from the inside out, Peter finds himself caught between powerful enemies, old legacies, and unexpected allies. As shadows from the past creep into his present, he must redefine what it truly means to be a hero — on his own.
The film is produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.
