The first plot details for the upcoming Sonic 4 have been revealed, confirming that Metal Sonic is the villain of the movie. Filming is set to begin soon in Vancouver, Canada.

Heroes Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles go on their biggest adventure yet as Dr. Robotnik unleashes his greatest creation, Metal Sonic, but it’s not the only one. With newcomer Amy Rose, they embark on an epic journey to save the future.
Most recently, THR reported that Kristen Bell has been cast as the voice of Amy Rose. Sonic 4 is reportedly expected to have a higher budget than the previous films and will explore a “darker future.”
At the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Tom, and Maddie) survives, while Robotnik is destroyed in the explosion of the Eclipse Cannon. But the action doesn’t stop there — the mid-credits scene introduces Amy Rose and several Metal Sonics — and the post-credits scene confirms that Shadow survived the final battle. Although his face isn’t shown, his iconic shoes give him away — and he is seen picking up one of his gold wrist cuffs from a crater.
Jeff Fowler, who directed the three Sonic the Hedgehog films, will return to direct the fourth movie from a screenplay by Pat Casey, John Whittington, and Josh Miller. The ensemble cast features James Marsden, Jim Carrey, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog, a character beloved by fans of the video games. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher of Original Films and Toru Nakahara return as producers.
According to insider DanielRPK, Paramount is reportedly developing a third Sonic universe movie that has not yet been officially announced. The current slate includes Sonic 4, set for release on March 19, 2027, a Sonic event movie scheduled for December 22, 2028, and another unannounced Sonic film with its release date yet to be revealed.
