A third Maleficent film has been in development at Disney.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Disney is planning a spin-off set within the Maleficent universe. Angelina Jolie previously confirmed she is signed on for at least one more installment. Although Disney has not officially announced Maleficent 3.
The film, titled “Fey Island,” expands the lore of the Dark Fey introduced in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and is described as “a National Geographic-style exploration of the magical world.”

The idea is for the audience to be introduced to several different environments, landscapes, and cultures over the course of the film. The plan is for the project to offer an immersive visual experience with a heartfelt, emotionally raw story that draws audiences deep into the world of the Fey.
Roy Conli, known for his work on several DisneyNature documentaries, is reportedly attached as a producer, and Jolie is also said to be involved as a producer.
Inspired by Disney’s 1959 animated classic Sleeping Beauty, the Maleficent franchise reimagines the story from the perspective of Maleficent, portrayed by Angelina Jolie, transforming her from villain to protector of the Moors and exploring her betrayal by King Stefan, her curse on Aurora, and her eventual redemption through maternal love, with the films starring Jolie and Elle Fanning; the 2014 original grossed over $758 million worldwide, while its 2019 sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, earned $490 million globally and remained profitable despite a lower total.
