Adam Driver is once again rumored to be joining the MCU. The actor is reportedly being considered for the villain role in X-Men movie, with Magneto said to be the character he would play. It would mark Driver’s notable MCU debut after he reportedly passed on the role of Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Scooper James Mack reported that Logan Lerman, Jesse Plemons, and Charles Melton were all reportedly considered for the role of Hank McCoy/Beast in the X-Men movie. Melton is currently the frontrunner.
Odessa A’zion is reportedly being considered for Rogue, while Milo Manheim is in talks for an undisclosed role and Wagner Moura is rumored to be Marvel’s top pick for Mister Sinister.
We have also heard that Nicholas Alexander Chavez is one of the top choices to play Cyclops in the movie. He is best known for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and General Hospital.
During the Shanghai Expo, Marvel President Kevin Feige revealed that the X-Men movie will be released very soon after Avengers: Secret Wars.
“After [‘Secret Wars’], the mutants are coming. The X-Men are coming, and that’s been a dream of mine. I started with the X-Men many, many years ago, and bringing a new version into the MCU is going to be very exciting.”
The film will be directed by Jake Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. It will focus on a coming-of-age story and follow a younger team that grows over time.
Marvel Studios is also reportedly planning to deliver a more colorful, fun, and action-packed X-Men movie under the direction of Schreier. The goal is to capture the spirit of X-Men ’97 while moving away from the darker tone of the Fox-era films.
Speaking to Deadline, co-writer Lee Sung Jin said Marvel’s X-Men reboot will take a character-first approach. Marvel wants audiences to connect with the characters first before focusing on large-scale action or world-ending stakes. Jin said he and Joanna Calo are concentrating on what makes each character unique and emotionally relatable.
He said, “I grew up with X-Men, and I think there’s no better set of characters that exemplify feeling othered and feeling different from the world. We want to continue exploring that theme, and it couldn’t be more relevant today in 2026.”
Marvel Studios’ upcoming film slate includes Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The studio also has three untitled Marvel films scheduled for July 28, 2028, May 4, 2029, and July 13, 2029, while Black Panther 3, Blade, Shang-Chi 2, and X-Men are currently awaiting release dates.
