The first look at Marvin Jones III‘s Tombstone fighting Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been revealed.
In the leaked clip from Spider-Man: Brand New Day below, the shot appears to recreate the iconic cover of The Spectacular Spider-Man #142 (1988), where Tombstone similarly holds a defeated Spider-Man high above the city.
It is reported that the opening montage features Spider-Man battling several supervillains, including Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and Ramrod, all of whom work for Tombstone. While Tombstone’s role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is reportedly limited, he is expected to have a much larger role in future Spider-Man films.
Here’s Peter Parker’s Villains Tracker Board. The board provides the first clear look at the crime boss Tombstone. The main headline next to him reads, “TOMBSTONE RUNNING CITY INTO THE GROUND.”
In a recent interview with Nerdtropolis, director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day was originally going to feature a major fight scene involving multiple classic villains. However, the sequence was ultimately scrapped, even though the villains’ designs had already been completed.
“Maybe we’ll bring it back for another film,” Cretton said.
Cretton also revealed that the first cut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day was nearly three hours long.
“That’s always part of the process. The first cut of the movie was close to three hours—about 2 hours and 50 minutes. But that wasn’t the length I wanted it to have, and there was never a battle to keep things in the movie that I wanted. I think the movie now has the correct length it should have.”
After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone.
The film is produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
