While Universal Studios has plans for the next Jurassic World movie, Gareth Edwards, who directed 2025’s Jurassic World Rebirth, has reportedly exited the sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Edwards will not return as the director of the Jurassic World Rebirth sequel due to “creative differences” with Universal. Although the studio is moving forward with the project, Jurassic World Rebirth was a successful box office hit, earning $869 million worldwide.
Universal wasted no time developing a sequel, bringing back David Koepp to pen the script. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are expected to return, although their schedules are still being coordinated.
With Edwards no longer attached, Universal has begun the search for a new director. The studio added in a Thursday statement, “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.”

The film will be produced by Edwards, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Patrick Crowley.
