The MCU had its first X-Men entry with Jean Grey, the Omega-level mutant, who debuted in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Marvel Studios has already planned the next phase following Avengers: Secret Wars, with the X-Men set to play a big part in Phase 7.
In a recent interview with Variety, Sadie Sink confirmed that Jean Grey will return in Marvel Studios’ X-Men movie and that she has already had conversations with director Jake Schreier. According to Sink, Jean’s internal struggles will help make the mutant more complex and well-rounded.
Sink said, “Yes, she will. It’s been really exciting, all the conversations we’ve had… I love the idea that it’s going to be a really awesome ensemble. I can’t wait. I’m getting super, super pumped about it.”
She added, “Jean’s struggle will be important to the future of her character and where she goes. It just makes her really well-rounded, which I’m excited for.”
Sink confirmed that the X-Men movie is set to begin filming next year. She said, “We’ll shoot X-Men, and then I’m going to do a series with FX and A24 called The Marriage Plot, so that’ll be next year.”

Sink reacted to Kit Connor’s reported casting as Cyclops in the X-Men movie, saying, “It’s been exciting to see, even if you don’t know what’s true or not … I know what’s true. And also, just the overall excitement about what’s to come is super positive.”
Sadie Sink Says Marvel’s X-Men Will ‘Start Young,’ Teases New Mutant Team
According to Sink, it’s a “smart choice” for the MCU to “start young” with a younger generation of mutants.
She added, “I’m really excited about having a group of people to feel like you’re on a team with.”
Sink said she watched Famke Janssen’s and Sophie Turner’s performances as Jean Grey to prepare for her role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
“I did an X-Men deep dive and I watched all of it. I was also really interested in, what do her powers look like?”
Sink says she’s involved in screen tests during the casting process for the X-Men movie.
“There are certain characters that it’s important to establish, like, do you have chemistry with this person? That’s always going to be a part of the process.”
After Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is expected to enter the Mutant Saga (MCU Phase 7), with three movies currently scheduled. The X-Men movie is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2028, followed by Shawn Levy’s Ghost Rider on July 28, 2028, and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 3 on December 15, 2028.
