New Look at Paul Bettany’s Vision and Ruaridh Mollica’s Tommy in VisionQuest

The new look at Paul Bettany and Ruaridh Mollica as Vision and Tommy Maximoff/Speed in Marvel Television’s VisionQuest series has been revealed by ScreenRant.

In the image, Bettany is seen as a human-looking Vision, with no red synthetic skin or cape, sporting short blonde hair and a dark jacket alongside Mollica’s Tommy. Vision Quest continues the story after WandaVision and Agatha All Along, focusing on Vision as he seeks to understand his existence while on the run.

Bettany says that Vision enters an internal virtual reality as part of his journey of self-discovery. Inside this virtual world, Ultron, EDITH, DUM-E, and U appear in human-avatar forms. The different AIs are there to help Vision process his experiences and understand himself better.

During the day, Vision tries to navigate the real world, then returns to the virtual reality at night. He downloads the events and experiences of his day and discusses them with the AIs. Each AI has different characteristics, skills, and perspectives, helping Vision understand different aspects of himself.

Bettany said, “He is attempting to move about in the world in a small way, and then at night download this data and discuss the things that have happened to him with these different AIs, who have different characteristics and help him understand different qualities and skills. But he is also very much using it as an excuse to keep the world and himself at arm’s length. And of course, events conspire to drag him actually into the world.”

In a recent interview with Empire, showrunner Terry Matalas described VisionQuest as “kind of the Vision movie,” saying the series will put Vision at the center of the story as he struggles to understand his identity and questions who he really is.

Matalas said, “This is the first time where we get to watch Vision drive the narrative, and understand who he is, who he thinks he was.” He added, “We watch this character go through an identity crisis. It’s kind of the Vision movie, if you will.”

“When ‘VisionQuest’ begins, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron’s influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.”

The cast of VisionQuest includes Paul Bettany as Vision, James Spader as Ultron, Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff/Speed and Thomas Shepherd, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Lauren Morais as Lisa Molinari, Orla Brady as F.R.I.D.A.Y., Diane Morgan as an associate of Paladin, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E, Jonathan Sayer as U, Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H., and James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S. Faran Tahir also reprises his role as Raza, with Cristian Lavin and Mary McDonnell appearing in undisclosed roles.

The series is directed by Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro, Vincenzo Natali, Terry Matalas, and written by Terry Matalas, Cindy Appel, Christopher Monfette, Nicole Falsetti, and Matthew Okumura.

VisionQuest premieres October 14, 2026, on Disney+, with the eight-episode series officially included in Phase Six of the MCU.
