‘Godzilla x Kong: Supernova’ Is Reportedly More Serious Than Its Predecessor, Test Reactions Say

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova had a second test screening in February, and the early reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. The film is said to be a more “serious” film than the previous installment.

According to YouTuber D Man1954, who posts Godzilla franchise updates, three people who attended the Godzilla x Kong: Supernova test screening enjoyed the unfinished version of the film. Based on what they shared, the movie is reportedly considered an improvement over Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and may even surpass Godzilla vs. Kong.

The film’s tone and style have been compared to a blend of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong. He added, “It’s a little more serious than The New Empire. The stakes are a little higher and more serious, and the world is a little more expansive and developed.”

So, Supernova takes a more serious approach than The New Empire, with higher stakes, a more expansive world, and a greater focus on epic monster action.

“Godzilla is the main focus of the film and has the most screen time, but Kong still has more screen time compared to Godzilla’s role in 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Meanwhile, Godzilla and Kong are on good terms, so there is no fight between them.”

Directed by Grant Sputore, with a screenplay by David Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green. It continues the story of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) and stands as the sixth MonsterVerse film, the 40th Godzilla movie, and the 14th King Kong installment.

The film will feature “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”

The cast of Godzilla x Kong: Supernova includes Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens as Trapper, Jack O’Connell, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Delroy Lindo as a Monarch boss, Matthew Modine as a general, Sam Neill, Josh Thomson as Ledon, Bronte Pearce as EDN Tech Gardner, and Sami Afuni as Lieutenant Payne.

The film is produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on March 26, 2027, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
