The Next James Bond Has Already Been Selected for Denis Villeneuve’s Film

Amazon MGM Studios has found its 007 for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming James Bond movie, according to Gary Oldman.

Villeneuve’s James Bond movie is expected to feature a “fresh-faced” British actor, likely in his late 20s or early 30s. The movie could explore Bond’s origins, including how he was recruited by MI6 and eventually earned his 007 status.

During an interview with Canada’s Global, Oldman was asked about his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden, who has been linked to the race to become the next 007. Oldman said that producers “have picked him” and “made their choice” but have not announced it yet. He also expressed his support for Lowden, who has recently been a betting favorite and one of the reported shortlist names alongside actors such as Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi.

Oldman said, “It’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist. We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

According to insiders, the final candidates for the role include Jack Barton, Lowden, Turner, Elordi, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, and Jack O’Connell.

With Villeneuve directing, the upcoming Bond film will feature a screenplay from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.

Last year, Villeneuve spoke about his decision to direct the next James Bond film.

He said, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.

“This is a massive responsibility, but also incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor.”

The film is currently aiming for a 2028 theatrical release.
