Chris McKenna Reveals Hundreds of Characters Are Being Considered for Avengers: Secret Wars

The biggest Avengers main event movie yet, with a huge cast, is coming in 2028. The massive character pool in Avengers: Secret Wars will bring together heroes and characters from across the MCU and its wider multiverse, as confirmed by writer Chris McKenna. The film’s script is being penned by Stephen McFeely, Michael Waldron, alongside the writing team of McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Speaking to the Bulwark Goes to Hollywood podcast, McKenna said hundreds of characters are being considered for Avengers: Secret Wars. The writers have a large list of Marvel characters mapped out for the movie.

McKenna said the team is deciding which characters fit into each part of the story.

“We have basically, like, hundreds of the characters up on the wall. We’re trying to go, ‘Okay, who can we fit in where and which story?’”

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has already hinted at how big the cast of Avengers: Secret Wars will be in a recent interview. He described these moments as “pinch-me moments” that Marvel fans have “always dreamed of” but have never seen realized on screen.

“We will bring together the characters we know and love in pinch-me moments that we as fans have always dreamed of but have never seen realized. And we will call on Doctor Doom, the greatest villain in the history of the Marvel universe, to become a centerpiece of that story,” Feige said.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters across the United States on December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
