Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 is now the final season and will not be renewed for Season 4. As reported by THR, Marvel Studios has also parted ways with showrunner Dario Scardapane, whose contract expired and was not renewed, during the final stages of Season 3’s post-production.
The third season wrapped filming two months ago, with post-production now underway. Scardapane’s exit comes while Season 3 is still in post-production. The final post-production team has not yet been confirmed by the studio.
Deadline reported that a surprising call from the studio shocked the cast and crew, informing them of the show’s cancellation.
According to Luminate data, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 saw a major drop in viewership compared with Season 1. The second season recorded 4.515 million views in its first five weeks, compared with 8.357 million for Season 1, a 46% decline.
During the wrap of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, Scardapane said, “THAT’S A WRAP on production for Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again. Thank you to Marvel and the magnificent cast and crew that made this season something very, very, very special. I’m humbled daily by the talent I get to work with. Cannot wait for you to see what all these twisted minds have come up with.”
Years after Netflix’s cancellation of The Defenders, fans finally had a chance to see the characters return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. This will be their final appearance together. According to a recent plot leak, “There will be a one-year time jump in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, and the plot will start with Matt still in prison and Fisk isolated on a deserted island, with both trying to rebuild their lives.”
Marvel Studios continues to have three to five live-action series in development, with sources now claiming that a new spy thriller known as Zodiac has been greenlit. While the meaning behind the title remains unclear, it could reference the Marvel Comics criminal organization Zodiac, led by Scorpio and made up of villains based on the zodiac signs. The group has famously faced off against S.H.I.E.L.D. in the comics.
