Steve Rogers’ Final ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Scene Is Where ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Begins

Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is connected to Avengers: Doomsday, as the choice he made to travel back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame ultimately led to the events that set up the multiversal incursion.

Following an Avengers: Endgame Encore screening at 92NY, Anthony Russo attended a Q&A, where he confirmed that Steve Rogers’ decision to travel back in time in Avengers: Endgame created the events that lead to Avengers: Doomsday.

Anthony Russo said, “You all just saw Endgame Encore, and there’s certainly a pivotal moment in that film at the end. We play one beat past where Steve Rogers’ story ended with Peggy… in that moment, that’s where Doomsday is born.”

Anthony Russo reveals how Steve Rogers’ ending in Avengers: Endgame connects to Avengers: Doomsday, with new Endgame Encore footage teasing the MCU’s future.

Avengers: Endgame Encore features an extended ending alongside three post-credits scenes that tease what’s ahead in Avengers: Doomsday. The extended scene revisits Steve and Peggy’s dance in the 1940s before a mysterious knock at the door introduces Loki.

Peggy asks, “Can I help you?” to which Loki, wearing his Time Variance Authority uniform, responds, “No, but I can help you. Both of you.”

Avengers: Doomsday Still Has Unannounced Cast Members

We have heard that Avengers: Doomsday has more cast members beyond those who have been officially announced, with some names still being kept secret for now. Anthony Russo also confirmed that the full cast has not yet been announced.

“I get confused myself over who we’ve announced and not announced, so I have to just slow down.”

Anthony revealed that he and Joe Russo are still deeply involved in finishing Avengers: Doomsday. The directors consider filmmaking an ongoing, iterative process that continues from the initial concept through the final delivery of the film.

“Joe and I are still very deep in the process of finishing Doomsday. We always say we’re not done with a movie until they pry it out of our cold, dead hands,” Anthony Russo added. “So, it’s a very iterative process for us… from the time of conception all the way to final delivery of the film. So it is alive, and we’re still working with it.”

At Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel, it was announced that Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter will also return for Avengers: Doomsday. Her return ties directly to Steve Rogers, who traveled back in time to be with Peggy at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

However, several names still appear to be missing from the official cast list. There are rumors that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda will also appear in the movie.
