Marvel Studios is preparing a fresh X-Men reboot, starting the mutant franchise from the ground up. The new movie will focus on a younger generation of mutants rather than established X-Men veterans.
The current X-Men lineup is said to consist of the original five-member team: Jean Grey, Scott Summers, Angel, Beast, and Iceman. Three other mutants are also part of the lineup: Rogue, Emma Frost, and Storm.
As reported by Murphy’s Multiverse, the X-Men movie will focus on “the school, prejudice, and the interpersonal friction between a younger generation of mutants finding their identity in a world that fears them,” rather than jumping straight into world-ending threats.
Jean Grey’s X-Men Story Won’t Revolve Around the Phoenix Force
According to Alex Perez, X-Men will feature Scott Summers and Jean Grey in a main romantic relationship, which will be an important part of the story. Perez said, “No. The romantic dynamic we’ll see will be the one between Scott and Jean.” He also teased a different direction for Jean Grey, adding, “And from what I’ve heard about what they’re going to do with Jean’s character, I think it will make a lot of people happy, especially those who want her to have a story that doesn’t revolve around the Phoenix Force.”
Before the X-Men movie, a few X-Men members will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars. Insider James Mack says that “Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey will meet Xavier (Christopher Abbott) and Cyclops (Kit Connor) for the first time in Secret Wars.” Bobby Drake (Iceman) will reportedly be one of the first mutants to meet Jean Grey at the X-Mansion.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Kit Connor said Marvel’s new X-Men movie will take a different approach from the previous films. He said, “I grew up with the original films in many ways, and it’s really cool because it also feels like we’re making a really different version, a different approach, which is really exciting.”
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has teased the future of the MCU, with the next major saga set to focus on mutants. Feige said, “X-Men already had 10 movies, some very, very good, some I think haven’t lived up to expectations… how do we plan the ‘Mutant Saga’ in a very grand way.” He also added, “There’s sagas upon sagas, with these comics that haven’t been told yet. And that’s great because the stories that inspired me to want to make these kinds of movies haven’t been told yet. I’m quite excited about doing them.”
Directed by Jake Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Schreier says the X-Men reboot will explore stories and ideas that have never been adapted before. He said, “Digging back into those comics like the Chris Claremont run and the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff. There are so many stories that are still untold.”
The X-Men movie will hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
