The Super Mario Bros. Movie Is Coming To Digital Platforms
The release date for ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘ on digital platforms has been revealed. The animated film will be released on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu, and YouTube Movies on May 16, 2023. (Update: The digital release date of ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ has been pushed from May 9 to May 16. Because of its box office success, the date has been pushed forward by one week.).
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ was released in theaters on April 5, 2023. The film made over $950 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2023 and having the greatest opening weekend ever for an animated movie, as well as the highest-grossing video game adaptation. The film received an audience score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” grade on CinemaScore.
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ will be available to buy or rent on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Peacock, Google Play, and iTunes on May 16, 2023.

Based on the world of Nintendo’s Mario games, the film invites audiences into a vibrant, thrilling new universe unlike any created before in an action-packed, exuberant cinematic comedy event. While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi. With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key; The Lion King) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy; The Queen’s Gambit), Mario taps into his own power.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as King Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. Produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri p.g.a. and by Nintendo’s Representative Director and Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, after more than six years of close bonding and discussions between the two. The film is co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo.
