Exciting news for Avatar fans! The highly anticipated sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” will premiere on HBO Max and Disney+ simultaneously on June 7, 2023.
In an official press release by Warner Bros. Discovery, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” will debut on Wednesday, June 7 on Max. The enhanced streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery, launches on May 23 in the U.S. Additionally, viewers can enjoy the movie on Disney+ starting on June 7.
According to The Verge, the shared premiere of “Avatar: The Way of Water” comes from a modified agreement between Disney and WarnerMedia in 2021. This agreement allows HBO Max (soon-to-be Max) to share the rights to films released by Disney’s 20th Century Studios in 2022 with Hulu and Disney Plus.
The film is directed by James Cameron from a screenplay he co-wrote with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, and Kate Winslet. Joining the illustrious adult cast are talented newcomers Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, and Jack Champion. Read our review.
In “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. All of this is against the backdrop of the breathtaking seascapes of Pandora, where audiences are introduced to new Na’vi cultures and a range of sea creatures.
